Goldfish play additional Summer Sunset gig

Super duo “Goldfish” take the stage at Kirstenbosch on Sunday, 12 April at an additional concert in the Old Mutual Summer Sunset series. The concert has been specially organised by Old Mutual and Kirstenbosch as a fundraiser to send the annual Kirstenbosch-South Africa Chelsea Flower Show exhibit off to London in May and brings the highly successful season to a triumphant close.

Having seen full houses for almost all the concerts this special concert with “Goldfish” is bound to attract a huge following. Their New Year's Eve appearance at the popular venue was a sell out and bringing them back for this last event will allow those who missed their previous appearance a chance to see them, as well as their many fans enjoying this second performance!

With the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) having no official sponsor for the Chelsea Flower Show exhibit this additional concert will raise badly needed funds to send a South African exhibit to what is known as the floral “Olympics” - the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show from 19 - 23 May. Proceeds will go to this 33 year old tradition of showcasing South Africa's plant diversity on this global platform.

Highly popular Goldfish (or the "Fishies" as they are fondly known to their legions of fans) is Dominic Peters and David Poole. Hailing from the Mother City, these unassuming surfer/jazz musician and electronic maniacs are one of the most exciting live electronica acts in the world.

Their rise to fame has been nothing short of meteoric and with their combination of live instruments like double bass, saxophone, keyboards, flute, and vocals with samplers, effects, synthesisers plus a healthy dollop of freeform improvisation, Goldfish has hit a nerve on dance floors across the world.

Their multiple-instrument live act has seen sold out shows from Ibiza to Tokyo, Dubai and Cannes and they have opened for electronica giants Fatboy Slim, Mr Scruff, The Audio Bullys, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong and Stereo MC's.

They are hailed as the Re-invention of the DJ, and were voted best live act in South Africa.

Mark your diary for Sunday, 12 April with this perfect opportunity to enjoy the last in the summer sunset concerts and support the SANBI exhibit to Chelsea as well as ensuring its re-display on home ground. 29 gold medals have been achieved over the years of exhibiting and in 2008 the exhibit, which focused on the effects of climate change, won gold as well as scooping the President's Most Creative Award - a brand new award given by the Royal Horticultural Society's President, Peter Buckley. At the concert, some of the models of previous Kirstenbosch exhibits will be on display.

The story of our unique Cape floral kingdom at this prestigious show attracts many tourists to our country thus assisting in our economic growth. South Africa being at the Chelsea Flower Show is a vital link in our tourism chain.
