The Dirty Skirts were accompanied on stage by Goldfish's Dom and an all female string quartet whose name (we seriously, really tried to remember) has completely slipped my mind. These additions added something different to the band. It was all in order to suit the venue I suppose. The band were their awesome selves keeping the energetic punk rockers entertained way up front with fast paced anthems, "Feeling the pressure", "Is this it?" and let's not forget "Homewrecker". They played quite a few songs off their previous albums like "Spirit is the new Black" and "Daddy has stopped breathing" as well as many from their latest album "Daddy Don't Disco". My favourite track off the new album has to be "Wake."
Kirstenbosch saw its first piece of underwear thrown on stage for the year as a black bra found Jeremy and got its five minutes of fame. Ruth pointed out that she just doesn't get the whole underwear flinging thing as you don't want to throw a pair of "manky" undies onstage, but at the same time you don't want to throw away a decent pair that might have cost you a fair dime that also fit quite snugly on your naked body. I guess you won't find Ruth's undies flying about anytime soon then. Good on you Ruth!
Among the punk rockers lay the mellow mid to aged fans who enjoyed the concert from a more horizontal position. Jeremy's parents were also amongst us appreciating what their son does for a living. His voice was giving in close to the end of their set but he hung in there. The band even stayed on-stage afterwards signing autographs on caps, shirts and CDs sold during the concert. It was an awesome gig and I hope to see those Dirty Skirts at Kirstenbosch in 2010.
