Hailing from Empangeni in Zululand, they are known for their fresh and vibrant approach to traditional Maskandi music. In addition to South Africa, they have toured the UK, Europe and Asia with their “fusion of traditional Zulu and western folk music”.

Qadasi has recorded two studio albums and received several Sama nominations. In the 90s, Radebe toured the USA with Ladysmith Black Mambazo. On his return to South Africa, he established the group, Shabalala Rhythm, with Sibongiseni and Thamsanqa Shabalala.

Radebe has recorded five solo studio albums and performed with Hugh Masekela and the Soul Brothers. Qadasi and Radebe’s first album, Lashis’ Ilanga, was released in 2016. Their sophomore album, Ungabanaki, won Best Traditional Album at the 2020 Sama’s.

The duo are on a quest to revive the powerful sounds of traditional Maskandi, fusing it with Western folk music.
