Credo, a multimedia oratorio composed and directed by Bongani Ndodana-Breen with a libretto by Brent Meersman, chronicles South Africa's road to freedom and the democratic values of the constitution. Soloists Sbongile Khumalo, Otto Maidi and Monika Wassung will be joined by the Cape Town Opera Chorus and the Cape Philhomirc Orchestra conducted by Jonas Albert, fusing African lyricism and rhythms with the symphonic tradition.
While the once-off performance on Sunday, 27 April is by invitation only, members of the public can attend the final dress rehearsal free of charge. It takes place on Saturday, 26 April at 7pm and tickets are available by emailing Amanda Mankayi (az.oc.epacstra@1nretni).
Also open to the public is the exhibition "20 Years of Democracy: Photographers' Perspectives", curated by photojournalist Eric Miller, who documented the struggle against apartheid during the 1980s.This will run daily from 24 April to 25 May (9am to 9pm).
Also on display will be "Mandela in His Own Words", a travelling exhibition of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport. This brief journey through milestones in Mandela's life includes his early years, emergence as a leader, imprisonment, freedom, the challenge of reconciliation, and his later years. Through quotations, the exhibition shares Mandela's own reflections on each phase.
