The tournament takes place as part of a working partnership between Willowton Group (Sunfoil) and the Gauteng Cricket Board to provide opportunities to youngsters from the various development areas. Invitation teams from Montrose Primary School and Kwazulu-Natal join the Township Tournament to compete against each other and improve their cricket skills.

Eight teams will play against each other to be crowned victors in this challenge, with Montrose Primary School defending their winning title.

"Our partnership with the Willowton Group has grown and we are seeing the fruits of the labour in the quality of cricket that the kids are playing. Willowton's unique focus on developing kids that may not have the opportunities available has put them in a unique sponsorship category. We are happy to grow this initiative with Sunfoil," said Cassim Docrat, chief executive officer of the Township Tournament.

The tournament starts on the 21st and the day will end with an opening function at Chaf Pozi, located at the base of the Orlando Towers. KFC Mini Cricket will also feature in this tournament through the festival held on 23 March.

Producing quality cricketers

"Sport has a way of bringing people together and helping them achieve their dreams, this is just one of the ways Willowton Group will continue to champion the causes of our communities. Under Sunfoil's sponsorship, the tournament has grown from strength to strength each year and we are beginning to see the vision of increasing the number of quality cricketers produced by the Gauteng region at a development level," said Shoaib Moosa, sales and marketing director at Willowton Group.

"We want to give the kids an experience true to the City of Gold and I am sure the boys from Kwazulu-Natal will thoroughly enjoy their inaugural Sunfoil tournament in Johannesburg," Docrat added. "May this be the start of a brilliant cricket career for these youngsters and may this instil a love of the game."

Willowton Group, a family-owned business which manufactures Sunfoil Triple Refined Pure Sunflower cooking oil as well as other high-quality brands such as Sunshine D, D'lite and Nuvolite has been a passionate supporter of cricket, beginning at grassroots level and extending to the sponsorship of the Sunfoil Dolphins franchise as well as the national team with Proteas Test Series Cricket.
