With this offering, OutSystems is unleashing the power of high-productivity application development on all developers by enabling them easily to create and deploy custom mobile and web apps for free in the cloud.

"With technology and end-user expectations for mobile and web apps changing at such a rapid pace, IT departments are struggling to keep up," said Paulo Rosado, OutSystems' CEO. "OutSystems is fundamentally changing the way applications are built and deployed. OutSystems Platform enables any developer to create and deploy enterprise-grade mobile and web applications quickly - driving tangible business innovation."

This OutSystems Platform free cloud offering is powered by the same robust application platform used by over 350 customers, including large enterprises such as Randstad, Liberty Insurance and Charles River Labs. Typically, only seasoned programmers have been able to develop and deploy complex mobile and web applications, creating a strain and backlog within IT departments. OutSystems Platform lowers the barrier of entry and unleashes the creative potential for all developers by giving them a powerful, easy-to-use platform that drives technical and business innovation.

    Create an app within hours

"Given the skills shortage in Africa, this provides an opportunity for anyone who has internet access to create an app within hours and learn to exploit the apps economy," said Craig Terblanche, director of OutSystems South Africa.

"The proliferation of PaaS will hinge on vendors' ability to combine flexibility with a set of production-ready development tools in a way that is compelling to app developers and enterprises," said Agatha Poon of 451 Research. "The portability of OutSystems Platform and its capability to demonstrate the speed and efficiency of IT through DevOps automation appear to be the right formula for accelerated growth.

"From a 30-year COBOL programmer in the US to a medical physicist in Belgium, a trader in the UK, and a professional developer in Tasmania, people across the globe are using OutSystems Platform to create innovative applications that they never imagined could be this easy," said David Holmes, vice-president of marketing of OutSystems. "The volume and variety of personal applications and enterprise prototypes being created is quite impressive. With nearly 7000 applications created and deployed, examples range from a prototype intended to replace a long-standing mainframe system to a national medical records database application and an app supporting a racquet-stringing business. The OutSystems Community is buzzing with creativity, and the speed of delivery is staggering."
