Randstad receives award for IT productivity

OutSystems has announced that two Randstad IT projects have received the OutSystems Innovation Award. The award recognises individuals and IT departments that are using the OutSystems Platform to dramatically improve productivity, create business value and drive innovation within their organisation. Randstad has been recognised for an Automated Medical Staff Payroll application and for its Customer Portal project.

"Randstad is a great example of how an IT team can drive real innovation within an organisation," said David Holmes, vice president of marketing for OutSystems. "We are extremely pleased to present Randstad with an OutSystems Innovation Award for the tremendous business value they have derived from delivering applications that have produced tangible results and improved business processes within their organisation."

Automated Medical Staff Payroll

In five months, two developers from Randstad's IT department used the OutSystems Platform to consolidate multiple, highly-complex manual processes into a custom-built application and front-end for medical staff payroll processes. They replaced legacy and paper-based business processes with a seamless, ERP-integrated workflow solution. In doing so, the Randstad team delivered a new enterprise application that resulted in 100 percent user adoption and an immediate return on investment.

According to Gonçalo Vilhena, service manager at Randstad, "We delivered a robust and cost-effective solution within a very aggressive timeline - easily achieving 100 percent user adoption."

Customer Portal

In a second project, Randstad replaced a two-year-old customer portal that was not meeting the needs of its more than 20,000 users. With a growing backlog of change requests, Randstad's IT team estimated it would take six-months to simply update the existing portal following traditional .NET development techniques.

Realising they were facing a losing battle, Randstad searched for a different development approach to deliver an application that would be far easier to maintain and iterate based on business and customer needs. Using the OutSystems Platform, a team of three developers delivered the first iteration of a completely new Customer Portal in only four months. Two months later, a second version was released based on change requests from business users. The Randstad Customer Portal is now a highly customisable solution that is rapidly growing in user adoption.

Upon project completion, Vasco Teixeira-Pinto, service manager for Randstad commented, "We were able to deliver a customer-facing solution that sets us apart in this very competitive market."

Says Craig Terblanche, Director and Country Manager at OutSystems South Africa, "with the skills shortage we have, the OutSystems platform could substantially improve companies' ability to innovate and explout the apps economy!"
