SA, Moz to share 107 MW power plant

An agreement between two leading private entities - Mozambique's Electricidade de Mozambique (EDM), and South Africa's Eskom - is expected to provide a 107 MW power plant, which will use Mozambican gas to provide an interim power supply to both Mozambique and South Africa.

Allafrica.com reports that international power solutions provider Aggreko and SA investment company Shanduka announced that the power plant project - approved by South African energy regulator NERSA and the Departments of Energy and Public Enterprise - will start operation early in the third quarter of 2012.

The power plant will be built at Ressano Garcia, on the Mozambique/ South African border, and the generation capacity of the plant will be split between the two companies - EDM will utilise 15 MW and Eskom will utilise 92 MW. According to Allafrica.com, the total value of the project is likely to be in the region of $250 million over two years, including fuel costs.
