Consumer spending trends and retail innovation
This week, Danette Breitenbach reports back on the launch of the South African
Mastercard SpendingPulse Report, an early indicator of consumer spending trends. Among the key finding is that consumers are no longer buying goods; instead they are spending their hard-earned cash on experiences. Details in
our top story today.
#InnovationMonth is in full swing! I interview the founders of Cape Town-based
ethical fashion and lifestyle brand, The Joinery, on how they're helping to cement South Africa's spot on the slow fashion map. Meanwhile Ruth Cooper
chats to the founder of Now Showing, a new constantly evolving boutique store and events space promising a unique consumer experience.
I also bring you some of the highlights of the
sold-out #ClicksCurls event, an expo that celebrates the natural hair movement and is an expression of Clicks' increasing investment into ethic haircare.
In other not-to-miss news,
Yuppiechef is set to open its first physical store,
Toys 'R' Us files for bankruptcy in the US and Canada, and
Pick n Pay sets the record straight regarding its reported Bitcoin payments.
To our South African readers, enjoy the shorter working week!
