SABC cutbacks cut deep... Mismanagement, leadership battles and wasteful spending have all contributed in one way or another to the SABC's financial woes - and it's South Africa's TV production sector that has been hit, and hit hard. In short, the SABC's cutbacks have put producers out of work. Financial support from the government would help keep the industry healthy, but while the creators of feature films receive incentives from government, the local television production industry is out in the cold. Charisse Nel is a bit disillusioned with the lack of trust and integrity she says is "pervading the marketing and advertising landscape", but she does offer some advice. Engage with your clients and instead of telling them what you have done, she suggests you could try telling them what you can do for them. Then engage with them, and work with them. So, should social media be a pillar of your marketing strategy? Find the answers in our follow-up to the sixth Thought Leadership Digibate. On branding, we have a new campaign for South Africa. "Inspiring New Ways" builds on the previous campaign, "Alive with Possibilities". So, what's in a name? A great deal, reckons Tebogo Koena. First "The Spear" and now... A new Zapiro cartoon has "appalled" the SACP and the ANC is none to pleased either. [Gail Schimmel] I'm a closet feminist. "Closet" because I have some mixed feelings about the whole thing, to be honest. Woman's day, for example, leaves me cold. But then every now and then I hear an advertisement that just pushes all my buttons, and brings that rampant feminist to the surface... Read more >>
[Charisse Nel] I must admit I am feeling quite disillusioned with the state of affairs, and by 'affairs' I mean the lack of trust and integrity that is currently pervading the marketing and advertising landscape. I've been thinking a lot about where this industry is headed and I believe we need to redefine how we approach branding and relationship-building with clients in order to restore trust. Read more >>

[Tebogo Koena] It takes time to craft a message, even more so when it is meant to kick-start dialogue. I'm thinking of the manner in which this song "Blacks R Foolz" was received.
