Peter Cowan, Chairman of Unilever South Africa joined the company as Senior Vice President Unilever Philippines in September 2011, as a result of Unilever's acquisition of Alberto Culver.
He started his career at Johnson and Johnson where he held up a number of positions in the global, regional and country organisation of the consumer products division, including that of global category director of baby and adult toiletries and Asia Pacific VP for feminine hygiene.
After 18 years at J&J, Cowan joined New Zealand Dairy Board as Group Managing Director for its global consumer business and then subsequently worked for Lion Nathan as Group Managing Director, global for wines and spirits. Cowan's wealth of experience and innate leadership skills will play a critical role in driving growth within Unilever's biggest African business.
Born in Cape Town, Cowan is married with three grown up children.
