Orms Cape Town School of Photography Open Day

Join our very first 2017 open day here at the Orms Cape Town School of Photography and take the first step to starting your career in photography!

Come and meet our lecturers, see our space, get an awesome goodie bag, and learn more about our 2018 one-year full-time programme and six-month part-time programme.

“Through our one-year full-time photography programme, we hope to contribute to the enrichment and development of our community by equipping photography enthusiasts with the necessary skills not only take a good picture but to forge a career in the photographic industry too. Photography as a whole is growing rapidly as the demand for acquiring knowledge has become more instantaneous and visually orientated. There is no quicker way to tell a story than through an image. With this, it is more important than ever that an image accurately depicts a message."

"Our vision for the Orms Cape Town School of Photography is to create knowledgeable, confident, and dynamic photographers ready to take on the industry. We look forward to welcoming you in your journey of photographic exploration.” - Mike Ormrod (founder).

Our intensive, yearlong course of study is structured to develop technically refined and creative photographers, who are able to explore and define their goals, situate their work within a broader and meaningful context and establish a solid foundation from which to build their careers.

Students will be taught by highly qualified and experienced lecturers, industry specialists, and fine artists within a supportive learning environment. The course curriculum is content driven, and student centred, drawing on the participation of both the individual and the group. Course work will consist of weekly assignments, group critiques, class discussions, practical exercises, tutorials, and individual mentoring sessions. Students are encouraged to be experimental with their project assignments, rigorous in their research, and exploration, and professional in their conduct.

In addition to their coursework, students will be expected to attend weekly lunch time lectures and take part in school fieldtrips and quarterly exhibitions. Students may also attend part-time study photo walks, open critique sessions, evening seminars, and a diverse range of alternative winter school courses as at no extra cost. Orms Cape Town School of Photography students will have access to an impressive range of resources and facilities on the school premises and will receive an exclusive discount on all their printing and framing at Orms.

At the end of their studies, students will leave with practical and creative portfolios, a personalised website and documentary short, extensive experience in showcasing work in an exhibition and a business vision. Past students who have successfully completed their studies at Orms Cape Town School of Photography have pursued careers in advertising, publishing, fine art, and as freelance photographers.
