Inaugural Toyota Jacaranda Pops sees more than 5000 flock to Kloofendal

Saturday, 22 October 2011, marked the happening of the 1st Toyota Jacaranda Pops concert - a tasteful pairing of top notch South African talent with a symphony orchestra that wowed a capacity crowd at the Kloofendal Amphitheatre mesmerized!

The gates opened at 4pm for a show that started at 7pm, but many didn't give noon a chance to get too much older before falling in line - kitted out with camping chairs, umbrellas, blankets and picnic baskets packed "brim and beyond" with delectable treats... and they were not to be disappointed, either!

Arno Carstens, Brandon October, Elvis Blue, Karlien Van Jaarsveld, Jay, Lloyd Cele and Riana Nel brought crowd-favourite Afrikaans and South African hits, brilliantly interwoven with international chart toppers. to life under a clear and starry Jo'burg sky, accompanied by the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

In addition, the Code Red Drum Corps and African Sky Pipe Band were there to add some extra spice and thrill to an already star-studded lineup!

The show, hosted by the Jacaranda 94.2 presenters, not only had something for every age and musical taste, but also featured a few surprises, including a meet and greet between the artists and their fans, appearances by Jacaranda 94.2's mysterious morph man and Kaptein Skuim, a "little Leeuloop surprise" kindly provided by "That Show" with Rian and a guest appearance by none other than "Ozzy Osbourne"! 'Small wonder that Barney Simon is such a fan... they could have been separated at birth!

Toyota also put their best foot, or wheel, forward - showcasing some of their newest vehicles and thrilling show-goers by giving them the opportunity to book test drives in, amongst others, the awesome new Toyota FJ Cruiser.
