Exciting start to 2006 for FCB South Africa

FCB South Africa has had an exciting start to 2006 with several changes at senior management level.

At board level, Nkwenkwe Nkomo has been promoted to the position of Chairman of FCB South Africa; he was previously Deputy Chairman of the group. He takes over the reins from Neil van der Weele, who has served as both Chairman and Group Chief Executive for the past five years.

Making the announcement, Group Chief Executive van der Weele said Nkomo has been with FCB South Africa for 22 years, and has an extensive knowledge of the company and the local advertising industry.

"Nkwenkwe commands enormous respect across our industry having, among other achievements, chaired the Association for Communications & Advertising for an unprecedented three tenures. I know he will lead the group wisely and strongly in his new position," he said.

Nkomo's appointment is effective from January 1 this year.

At top management level, Godfrey Morley has joined FCB South Africa as Group Managing Director, from Samsung. The 38-year old, who grew up in the Edenpark township on the East Rand, has a Bachelor of Commerce degree and worked at Caltex Oil SA prior to spending six years at SABMiller where he fulfilled various brand management and sponsorship roles. He ultimately was appointed Head of Sponsorship for the brewer at a time when it was sponsoring the national soccer, cricket and rugby teams, as well as the Castle Premiership and the 2006 World Cup Soccer Bid. Morley then moved to McDonalds in South Africa as Marketing & Communications Director before joining Samsung as Group Marketing Director.

Morley's appointment is a bitter-sweet one for Van der Weele as he is replacing Maserame Mouyeme, who is relocating her family to Nairobi, Kenya, where she will join Coca-Cola as Divisional Marketing Director for East and Central Africa.

"I am personally very sorry to lose a person of Maserame's calibre. She has made an immense contribution to the group and the South African advertising industry," he said.

"At the same time, we are thrilled that Godfrey Morley will take over the seat vacated by Maserame. Godfrey brings a wealth of diverse experience to our group and will, no doubt, add a new leadership dimension," he said.
