Cape-based brand design agency expands footprint to Gauteng

Twelve-year-old, independently-owned Just Design has opened shop in Johannesburg prompted by growing demand for their strategic-led approach to design and a solid understanding of blue-chip client needs. Their extended footprint offers the FMCG, financial services, mining and manufacturing industries the opportunity to take advantage of an owner-managed, hands-on service. Just Design has expertise and a proven brand design track record in big brand tobacco, plus the alcoholic beverage and FMCG sectors.

"We're bringing Cape Town's creativity to Joburg. Our agency's motivating principle is to develop results that are strategically sound and aesthetically pleasing," comments Alastair Haarhoff, Managing Director for Just Design.

Clients include manufacturing heavyweight British American Tobacco, super luxury wine estates Rupert & Rothschild, De Morgenzon and La Motte, plus leading beverage conglomerates KWV Limited, Distell, Really Great Brands Company and Ceres Beverage Company, as well as Puma South Africa and I&J Limited. They have all benefitted from the "think before you ink" full-service brand development offering which Just Design provides in the form of ThinkSpace and SmartArt, respectively a strategic workshop product and creative review process.

"Our specialised core offering is design-focused," says Haarhoff, "and Johannesburg clients can additionally tap into our through-the-line offering, with below-the-line design solutions sister company, Espresso Communications. We are also proud of our own interactive digital solutions services firm, Milk."

The advantage of retaining client work within the group, says Haarhoff, is that they provide a specialised full-service offering where clients can save on cost and turnaround time. "All team members have a like-minded approach to the creative brief, following the same work ethic and mantra," he emphasises. "Finally, Just Design acts as brand custodian across various touch points to ensure brand, creative and message consistency, while simultaneously minimising client involvement."

Just Design Johannesburg will be headed by Bernadette Bule (28), formerly Business Development Manager for the SA-Angola Chamber of Commerce and External Communications Coordinator for Ernst & Young South Africa. Agency owner and MD, Alastair Haarhoff will assist Bule.
