First of its kind post grad diploma to help SA entrepreneurs!

The Tertiary School in Business Education (TSiBA) accredited post grad diploma in Small Enterprise Consulting (PG Dip SEC) will now be offered at its Knysna and Cape Town campuses in 2013. The course develops consultants who can coach and mentor small business owners to grow their businesses to be profitable and sustainable.

TSiBA noticed a gap in the South African market for a formalised, academic course aimed specifically at those working closely with entrepreneurs and small business owners. Entrepreneurs need sustained, expert mentorship and coaching to guide their enterprise through both the incubation and growth stage. The PG Dip SEC is designed to develop consultants to effectively support and guide micro enterprises into small and medium-sized businesses.

TSiBA's Dean, Nolan Beudeker, explains why there is such a great need for a course like this especially in the South African context "The Total Entrepreneurship Activity (TEA) index for South Africa is at less than 5%. That is less than half of any other comparable nation. Entrepreneurial activity fails simply because people do not know what they are doing: entrepreneurs often have no managerial or financial skills and no help, or mentorship."

PG Dip SEC is an 18-month modular part-time course at NQF Level 8 accreditation which includes an experiential learning component. It is aimed at managers, leaders, coaches, mentors and consultants who have an interest in helping the growth and development of entrepreneurial activity in South Africa. Essentially it is for those people who help small business owners start, grow and develop the scale and scope of their businesses to ensure they are profitable and sustainable.

TSiBA Eden's Executive Director, Sandy Ueckermann elaborates "PG Dip SEC is designed as a formalised qualification that will equip graduates to provide support to entrepreneurs through coaching and mentoring, and to facilitate knowledge transfer in those areas that we know South African entrepreneurs need it most. Amongst ourselves we speak of a post graduate diploma as 'Holding-the-hand-of-the-Entrepreneur'."

TSiBA is an innovative business school specialising in developing leaders and entrepreneurs who will take South Africa forward by igniting opportunity and social change. While TSiBA is a not-for-profit Business School the PG Dip SEC is its first "paid-for" course with all fees being ploughed back into TSiBA to cover scholarships for more students. Not only is the course providing a solution for the lack of entrepreneurial mentoring courses, but it will also boost entrepreneurial potential in South Africa by providing funding to help disadvantaged students.
