TSiBA - helping to create a positive change

These inspiring words come from Kaylin Meyer (21), a second-year student and scholarship recipient at the TSiBA Education in Pinelands, Cape Town.
TSiBA - helping to create a positive change

Hailing from Karatara in Knysna, Kaylin pursued his tertiary education on a scholarship from TSiBA in hopes to pursue his Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA). “Without the scholarship, this course would not have been possible and I wouldn't have the opportunity to pursue my dreams on starting my own business one day,” Kaylin said.

TSiBA offers four courses, a Certificate in Practical Business Administration (CPBA), a Higher Certificate in Business Administration (HCBA), a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Entrepreneurial Leadership and a Postgraduate Diploma in Small Enterprise Consulting (PG Dip SEC). Kaylin has already obtained his CPBA and HCBA at TSiBA; he intends to start his own marketing, advertising and events company after he graduates.

Raised by a single mother and his grandmother, Kaylin is fully dependent on TSiBA for a scholarship that would be otherwise impossible to afford, if institutions like this did not exist. “TSiBA has a very important role for guys like me to succeed, without funding from corporate companies and donors, TSiBA will be non-existent,” he said. TSiBA collaborates with corporates, foundations and individual funders to sponsor the costs for operations and management of the institution. TSiBA’s model is simple; students study for free and they are encouraged to "Pay it Forward" by transferring the knowledge, skills and resources they gain at TSiBA, into their communities.

Kaylin said he would like to start an NGO in Knysna in the future and it will be his way of "Paying it Forward. The basis of the NGO will be focused on individuals that have the skills and knowledge of other areas of interest other than business. He says the NGO would give them an opportunity and the resources to pursue their careers and their interests. “South Africa has an education problem, we have no funds and to have a tertiary education is expensive. Institutions such as TSiBA give me an opportunity to make a difference and a chance to make an impact in my community.”

TSiBA has awarded over 4,000 tuition scholarships to students to study towards accredited TSiBA programmes. In six short years, TSiBA has produced three Kofi Annan fellows, three Allan Gray Orbis fellows and eight Mandela Rhodes Scholars.

The Tertiary School in Business Administration (TSiBA) is a private, not-for-profit business school founded in 2004, registered and fully accredited with the Department of Higher Education & Training as a private higher education institution.
