TSiBA business scholarships ignite the light at the end of the tunnel

It is an unfortunate reality that during Youth Month, while we remember the sacrifice of young people in 1976 standing up for the right to be educated, South African youth are once again protesting in order to create a better future. Over twenty years into democracy there are still too many people unable to afford a tertiary education. For some it goes deeper in that the shortcomings of our schooling system limit university access due to academic reasons.

The good news is that in 2016 while we work at rewriting history with the #FeesMustFall movement there is light at the end of the tunnel. One such bright opportunity exists at the Cape Town Tertiary School in Business Administration (TSiBA), a fully registered and accredited not-for-profit business school founded in 2004 (No: 2007/HE08/001). TSiBA offers four business entrepreneurship and leadership qualifications with a strong focus on self-development and practical experience. TSiBA students who have been awarded tuition scholarships are not required to pay back their scholarships, but to ‘Pay it Forward’ transferring the skills they gain at TSiBA back into their communities. In this way effecting real socio-economic change for the future.

Khwezi Jackson, 19 years and a 2016 TSiBA Bachelor in Business Administration student, feels that “Youth Day is a reminder that the future is in our hands, but it is our responsibility to determine what kind of future we make for ourselves. TSiBA shows us that education is more than just studying, that there is a whole world out there. At TSiBA students are given a second chance to catch up and learn basic academic skills which they may have missed in high school. TSiBA is different in that they provide great support which supports all students to do well in their studies. Their Pay it Forward philosophy empowers me to give back to the community, but I also get to do amazing things, gain exposure to new networks, ideas and overseas university programmes.

"My advice to learners is to know what you want to do, research your options as well as the scholarship opportunities out there. There are many great tertiary institutions out there, but I would highly recommend if you are motivated, self-driven, with a good attitude you should apply to TSiBA. It’s more than just a scholarship, more than just an education, it’s a way of life. The reality is a degree doesn’t guarantee a job anymore, but I am confident that TSiBA’s programme and accredited degree will develop me to be the employee that every employer is looking for.”

Adri Marais, TSiBA CEO & Co-founder, explains that “TSiBA’s unique curriculum integrates knowledge, skills and attitude through our ‘Profile of Graduateness’ which has been carefully designed to match the needs of employers and the competencies needed to be a successful entrepreneur. The evidence is there in that 96% of TSiBA degree graduates are employed, studying at postgraduate level or entrepreneurs.”

Kwanele Magwaca, Student Recruitment at TSiBA, encourages learners and potential scholarship applicants to “be more organised, plan ahead and send in applications early. We are looking for young people with potential, have an interest in business and want to make a difference in their communities to apply to TSiBA. You can apply until 30 September 2016.”

To grab this opportunity and change your life visit TSiBA Cape Town’s Campus Open Day on Saturday, 30 July 2016, between 10h00 to 13h00. You will get to experience the campus and learn about this business school directly from students and staff.
