First-day jitters for Central Technical College students

Central Technical College (CTC) welcomed approximately 300 first-year students to the Braamfontein Campus for their first day at campus.

General Manager of CTC Braamfontein, Kemi Odubajo said students were at the campus bright and early with the usual first-day jitters, but soon become accustomed to the routine of moving from class to class. Kemi believes by the end of the week the new students will be settled into a routine.

CTC has a diverse group of students studying different qualifications all with expectations of an exciting year ahead.

Samu Nxumalo, a first-year electrical engineering student, commented: “I woke up early, very early and I was nervous when I found out the train was not working because I didn’t want to be late for my first day. But, the CTC staff were helpful and understanding.” Samu chose to come to CTC in Braamfontein because she thought it would be interesting to move to a different city and get an education that was affordable.

Marcia Mashele, studying Public Relations, said she was so nervous she walked into the wrong class but now that she sees how fun and interesting the classes are she feels comfortable and doesn’t feel nervous anymore.

Whitney Mthumbeni, who is starting her studies in marketing management, said, “I was very happy that the computer lab teacher was so patient and now using technology such as computers doesn’t intimidate me.” Whitney chose to pursue studies at CTC when she saw the small intimate classes and felt comfortable with gaining an education where you get a lot more individual attention.

Tietso Rasebechele, also studying public relations, said she was not nervous at all and was excited to immediately make friends. Tietso said the lecturers were “friendly and made it very easy to adjust to a different environment.” Tietso chose CTC because her cousin also studied at CTC and was successful after her studies in her career.

The first-year CTC students were excited to take the pictures for their student cards and made new friends in the waiting area excited for the road ahead.
