Candidates were asked to produce videos depicting their interpretation of Luke Andreski's well-known poem Passive Tense. "When I first saw CityVarsity's video representation of Passive Tense, I was knocked out by the thought of these brilliant students pooling their talents to create this video," said Andreski , who raved about the calibre of work produced by CityVarsity.
Another accomplishment for the Animation students was winning the world's largest game jam event, the Global Game Jam (GGJ). The event challenged worldwide sites to produce games in just 48 hours using a specific theme. The group of first-year students competed against many international bodies including Computer Science Programming students, who are at Honours-Degree-level and walked away as undefeated champions.

The winning students of the Dark Green Books Competition won $150 for their talents, but this was just the icing on the cake as the main prize is being recognised by an international body and being allowed to showcase their talent on a popular online medium, like Youtube. CityVarsity students are quickly becoming household names abroad, with the New York Daily Times showcasing the Newtown campus for its win in the body painting and art showcase event last year.
