Not many students will say they have had the chance to interface and work with a Hollywood star while they are still in college. Mpho Mahlaamela had the rare opportunity and made the most of it.
Rare opportunities presented thanks to CityVarsity

The CityVarsity Film and Television student started out as a photographer, but his love for film grew over the years so he decided to pursue a career in the film industry.

Being a CityVarsity student has given Mpho opportunities to get practical experience and interface with names some people only dream about.

“Since I enrolled with CityVarsity, the highlight has been the Arnold Classic Africa (ACA) event. When I got to shoot at ACA, I had the opportunity to interview Arnold Schwarzenegger who has been in the film and television industry for years. It was such an honour,” said Mpho.

Mpho has worked on other projects for his personal development. He has shot music videos for people in Limpopo his hometown and shot the Gaming Championship League. He is determined to start building his brand and work his way to the top.

“I grew up as a photographer and then moved on to video, and I was shooting music videos locally for people, so I wanted to know more about the film industry,” said Mpho.

Studying film and television has been the best decision he has made for himself. He has learnt to adapt and keep up with the pressures that come with being a student. When he starts feeling overwhelmed, he reminds himself of the bigger picture, that one day he hopes to work for SuperSport and have his own production company. He pictures himself as a successful and influential man in the film and television industry.

To be the person he hopes to one day become, he puts in the best effort and applies himself in his work; his passion pushes him to strive to produce quality content all the time. The Head of Department encourages them and always assists in connecting them with industry experts.

Mpho describes himself as a person with big dreams and he loves to work with other people. He loves listening to other people’s opinions and is a creative at heart. He has an indescribable love for film and hopes to one-day work for CityVarsity as a film and television lecturer. He treasures the love and support that his family gives him.
