Youth station goes to CityVarsity

CityVarsity welcomes youth radio platform for some food, fun and healthy debate

Youth Leadership Platform (YLP), a popular radio-based show, comes to CityVarsity. On Friday, 10 February, CityVarsity Braamfontein welcomed Cliff Central radio station, the hosting station for YLP to the campus to educate and entertain its students.

CityVarsity is a learning institution that promotes a creative mind with students that have strong opinions and ideas. These are among the qualities that CityVarsity loves about its students.

Youth Leadership Platform airs every Monday from 2-3pm, and promotes healthy discussions and debates on issues that matter to the youth. We spoke to YLP content producer Sasha-Leigh Goncalves, who had this to say: “CityVarsity is an institution that allows creative growth; something that not every institution fosters and nurtures. I believe that the rise in unemployment would easily be combatted by a rise in students pursuing qualifications in the creative arts arena. CityVarsity and its students prove that you don’t need to follow a predictable or typical career path to be successful – and that’s something I love.”

YLP in conjunction with Student Brands sponsored prizes, from Solo cosmetics, Pentel stationary, music CDs, and more. The CityVarsity team added to the vibe of the event and created a relaxing and fun environment for students to socialise and make new friends. Students enjoyed cooldrinks, hotdogs, popcorn and candyfloss.

The atmosphere of music and student life was abuzz, with students dancing and taking selfies that will no doubt be on their Instagram and Twitter pages. Host of YLP Bongani Tau said, "CityVarsity is a foster care for creative minds. Being there felt like home to me, as a creative myself.”

Students are encouraged to call in and give their opinion about issues that are important to them. Zenzele Zungi, General Manager of CityVarsity Braamfontein, was elated with the excellent response and complimented the students for speaking their minds. “Our youth are our future, and CityVarsity is proud to partner with YLP, to provide a voice for this talented and spirited generation,” said Zenzele.
