Damelin sponsors over R50,000 to Msunduzi Hospice

Damelin, known for its rich history of providing quality private education for over 70 years, sponsored over R50,000 to the Msunduzi Hospice for their Annual Jazz fundraising evening on Saturday, 27 June. The event is held every year by the Msunduzi Hospice and is a significant occasion for the Pietermartizburg community. This year it took place at the Golden Horse Casino and with the help of Damelin Part-time it was an unforgettable evening, attracting hundreds of guests and raising over R100,000.

The evening was a splendour of entertainment from live jazz and great food to Mo the Magician mesmerising the audience with his grand magic spectacle and witty sense of humour. The night rounded off with an exciting auction of three Damelin Part-time bursaries valued at R10,000 each. The auction was heartwarming for donors, each bidding to change someone’s life.

Greg Moody, Dr SH Narain and a group of alumni (class of 86) from Raisethorpe Secondary School each won the bid for the three bursaries to donate to a person of their choice. The donors have decided to award the bursaries to disadvantaged individuals to study towards a diploma, certificate or short-skills programme at Damelin Pietermaritzburg.

Greg Moody, a proud donor, said, “I strongly support further education, especially for the youth in South Africa. It is up to business leaders to encourage the youth and create a feeling of hunger for education.”

General Manager of Damelin Pietermaritzburg, Sbongiseni Magwaza, said, “We work closely with our community to be a force of good and it means a lot for us to be a part of the Msunduzi Hospice to make a difference in the community. The bursary auctioning was a great element for fundraising and it makes us very happy to know that members of the community not only donated to the hospice but made a bid towards earning an education for someone else’s future.”
