Educor Holdings gives back to 2,000 pupils in KwaMashu and Inanda

Educor Holdings flagship brand Damelin gave back to over 2,000 pupils from Sibonese Primary School and Siphumele Primary School with two fun-filled days of good food, music and entertainment. The programme took place on Thursday, 19 October, and Friday, 20 October, in KwaMashu and Inanda respectively.

The project, spearheaded by the Educor Chairman, Leo Chetty, treated the children to KFC lunch box meals, candyfloss, jumping castles and musical entertainment.

A spirit of delight filled the classrooms while the children awaited Damelin’s arrival. As the entertainment and food trucks pulled in, their anticipation mounted and work for the day had concluded.

Peeping through their classroom windows wide eyed with excitement watching the arrangements for the day come to life, the children prepared to receive their lunch. As staff approached their door, they stood up in respect to formally greet them. The smiles on their faces lit up the room as each pupil could not wait to fill their tiny tummies with the scrumptious burger, chips and cooldrink.

Group Head of Communications, Jessie Naidoo, said, “This programme, in its twelfth year, forms part of Educor Holdings annual outreach programme. It is really close to heart of our chairman, Leo Chetty, and is aimed at improving the lives of pupils and communities near where its campuses and sites are located."

At Sibonese Primary School, the Damelin Overport team personally handed out 700 meals to each pupil along with their packet of bubblegum pink candyfloss.

The Damelin Durban City team supported the Siphumele Primary School programme in Inanda where they plated over 1,500 lunchbox meals. The team split up and gave each pupil their meal in their classroom along with their sugary treat.

"Thank You Damelin," the pupils expressed as they quickly tucked into their meals, so that they could go outside to enjoy the entertainment.

"It was extremely heart-warming to receive the love and appreciation from the pupils," said Simon Ngubane, General Manager of Damelin Durban City. “We are really proud to have made a difference.”

Once they completed their meals, the pupils rushed out to the jumping castles and jumped to their hearts' content. The DJ present also entertained them with their favourite music. They formed a circle and displayed their best dance moves.

Principal of Siphumele Primary School, PS Ndaba, thanked Damelin for hosting the programme. “We truly appreciate all the thought and effort that went in to make the day a success. The pupils were ecstatic, as many of them do not get the opportunity to eat ‘takeout’ meals. We would like to thank Damelin for giving the pupils a day that they will always remember and we are hopeful that this relationship will continue.”

Jessie concluded, “Giving back to the community is part of Damelin’s ethos and we look forward to hosting more of these school programmes in the future.”
