Damelin Braamfontein makes history with over 1,000 first years

Damelin Braamfontein celebrated a significant milestone with a record number of first-year students at its orientation day, as students kick off the 2017 academic year. The significant number can be attributed to the popularity of the brand and the quality of education and opportunities that a private education holds.

General Manager for Damelin Braamfontein, Lucas Leloka, said that Damelin is committed to providing quality education to each person that chooses to study at the institution.

“This is the first time in the history of Damelin we have had so many first-year students. Over a thousand and that number is only expected to increase next year. This means that people recognise that Damelin offers quality education, and it is up to them to learn from their lecturers and peers,” said Lucas.

Lucas also advised students they should never be afraid to ask for help and to make use of the tools that Damelin has to offer, which includes the expertise of the academic staff who are there to help and guide the students through their studies.

“You are able to write your own story,” said Lucas and ended his address to the students by telling them it is up to them to leave a legacy they can be proud of.

Among other speakers in attendance was lecturer and academic speaker Schalk le Roux who had three points of advice for successful studies at Damelin. “Take the responsibility to work hard and study because while we are here to help you, you still have to put in the effort. Have accountability for your actions whether it is good or bad. To be accountable means taking the credit for achieving something good but also means owning up if you do something bad. Last, practice good time management. If you plan your time well, you will never be overwhelmed by work,” said Schalk.

Damelin is also proud to offer a new feature for its students, in order to help them on their educational journey. The Academic Advisory Centre (AAC). Students were given some peace of mind knowing they were not in this alone. The AAC will appoint a qualified advisor to each student upon request to help them better understand and deal with work they don’t understand.
Students were also given some relief from the serious talk with some light entertainment and social icebreakers such as music and dance to encourage them to emerge from their shell.

Orientation concluded with students taking the pictures for their student cards.
