The international leg of the competition kicks off on 12 April 2016 at 12pm where teams will travel across Europe in seven days, using only Red Bull cans as currency. Each team will hand over their cash, cards and phones in exchange for 24 cans of Red Bull and a smartphone. All the teams will leave at the same time from various starting points in Europe and will have one week to reach their final destination.

Students, Tomas Wells and Sarah Waller from CityVarsity, together with their friend Peter Hudson created the film called “Citizens of the Cape” which showcases the beauty and adventure of Cape Town.

Sarah is 19 years old from Durban and is currently living in Cape Town where she majors in producing and directing at CityVarsity. She said, “Unlike Marlin I have a map and I’m not looking for Nemo, I’m looking for adventure. Like Dory once said, “Just keep swimming (to the next check point).”

Tomas who is 21 years old, was born and bred in Johannesburg, but has been living in Cape Town most of his life. He is currently specialising in editing and cinematography at CityVarsity. He said, “I love to explore and be pushed outside of my comfort zone, which is why I can’t wait for this trip.”

General Manager of CityVarsity Cape Town, Michelle Young eager to see CityVarsity students succeed said, “The competition is a unique and innovative idea that resonates with our brand. It seems only fitting that two of our own should stand a real chance of winning. Let’s follow their journey and support them all the way!”

According to the competition criteria, teams will have to use their bartering skills and charm to trade Red Bull cans for everything they need on their journey such as food, accomodation and transportation to the next location. Teams that successfully complete checkpoint challenges will be rewarded with more cans of Red Bull to help them get through their trip.

Sarah, Tomas and Peter will create their own travel adventure by vising various checkpoints in European cities. Along their journey they will be posting photos and videos of their experiencies, while completing as many tasks on the adventure list.
