Training for service excellence at Oasys

The training and development of employees have long been viewed by labour experts as one of the most essential functions of the Human Resources Department in any business. Oasys Innovations demonstrates their commitment to developing and retaining their employees by investing in various training programmes throughout the year.

"Training does not only improve the team spirit and staff morale, but also allows the company to optimally utilise employees' skills and talents. Furthermore, training increases employees' job knowledge and facilitates achievement of personal goals as well as those of the business. Consequently, all of these elements impact positively on productivity," says Petros Myeni, Group Human Resources Manager at Oasys Innovations.

Oasys sales staff undertook and successfully completed a course titled "Becoming the best salesperson", while five Oasys electricians completed an Apprenticeship section 28 module M0 - M3 course to sharpen their skills. Site staff benefitted from the 'On site expectations' training course, which served as a refresher course on the expectations clients have of site staff. Topics included health and safety, build-ups, breakdowns, documentation and how to treat the client.

Potential supervisors from all the activation companies at Oasys attended a supervisory training course rated as NQF level 4. This course is accredited by the Services SETA (SSETA), which means that the qualification these candidates obtain will be recognised nationally. All SSETA approved courses offer the benefit of being custom designed to fit employees' individual needs.

Myeni concludes that service and professionalism in the events and exhibition industry is extremely important. "Because we know that the success of any event relies heavily on competent staff, continuous training will be provided to key personnel at Oasys, to ensure service excellence."

Another course in the pipeline is a six-month ABET (Adult Basic Education and Training course), which will commence shortly for pre-assessed employees - fifteen in total.
