Electra Mining: A rock solid brand in the exhibitions industry

Since its inception more than 35 years ago, Electra Mining Africa has grown to become the largest specialised industrial exhibition in Africa, and ranks among the three largest mining shows in the world. It will be held at the Expo Centre (NASREC) from 8 until 12 September.

Says John Kaplan, Managing Director of Specialised Exhibitions and Project Director for this exhibition: “This year will again be a bumper show for our exhibitors and visitors. Six halls, halls 5 to 10 plus an outside area, which total 34,000 square meters, are completely sold out and we have more exhibitors and brands as well as more local companies than in previous years. Visitors will be able to feast on solutions and services - from electrical engineering and software packages for production optimisation, to earth-moving equipment and service companies such as finance houses. As in previous years, a bonus again this year will be the announcement by the Department of Minerals and Energy that its mining week will coincide with the show. This means a lot to our brand as there will be several conferences and official visits coinciding with Electra Mining. The continued support by the Department of Trade and Industry and seven mining-related associations also underscores the value of this event.”

Kaplan said that the exhibition does not only mean a lot for the industry, but that South Africa benefits directly from the hundreds of millions of rand of international business conducted as a consequence of the show. “In terms of creating value, of all the exhibitions hosted in South Africa, Electra Mining must be the biggest money-spinner for our country and is a brand that is recognised in all relevant global markets. It is a platform to stimulate trade in the mining, capital goods and electro-technical sectors, and requires a collective input from our exhibitions infrastructure suppliers. In this regard we have had a long association with Oasys Innovations and, as in previous years, have again appointed them as one of our partners.”

Oasys Innovations Chief Executive Brian Kennedy: “Electra Mining means a lot to our company, not only for our order book, but specifically because of the international dimension of the show. We have been involved with international clients locally and on other continents, and Electra Mining is a brand that accompanies our international marketing initiatives wherever we go. Although Electra Mining is a huge effort for both Specialised Exhibitions and for the infrastructure suppliers, we are fortunate that this will not deplete our stock of exhibition systems, carpeting and electrical equipment. During the last five years we have embarked on a capital expansion programme of around R12 million per annum. As a consequence we can be a vendor to many different organisers and meet demand through our five activation companies.”

Oasys Innovations will be supplying much of the infrastructure for the exhibition, including 22,000 square meters of carpeting and 5,000 square meters of shell scheme. Electrical connections will be supplied to approximately 120 customised stands, of which about 80 are typical “walk on packaged” stands. Some of these include well-known brands in the mining and beneficiation industry including Atlas Copco, Bearing Man, Boart Longyear, Gedore Tools, Joy Mining, Sasol, Siemens, Toolquip - to mention a few. Oasys marquees will also be used for exhibitors who will not be accommodated in the six halls, for three visitor registration areas and for the restaurant measuring 10x35 meters.
