Oasys instrumental for international market contact

Following South Africa's entry into the international business community since the nineties, progress has been made in leaps and bounds. Collective efforts have repositioned the country from perceptions of a closed economy to one of the world's new yet strategic trading partners.

The Global Meetings and Incentives Exhibition (EIBTM) supports this platform from which future business can be accelerated. For the fourth consecutive year, the exhibition was held at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain on 27-29 November 2007. Oasys Innovations was commissioned by South African Tourism to showcase South Africa as a destination at this global networking event. With 2700 international suppliers from over 95 countries, it was a significant networking forum and an opportunity to further advance the concept of “Proudly South African”.

Oasys Innovations was contracted by South African Tourism to provide a full turnkey solution including stand conceptualisation, construction and contracting. The stand measured 77 square meters, and was prominently branded by South African Tourism with beautiful images of our destination highlights and heritage. With three shows hosted daily, and one-on-one meetings with pre-scheduled buyers, Oasys assisted the exhibitors in utilising this unique opportunity to reach international decision makers. The launch of the alliance between the South African Association for the Conference Industry (SAACI) and Meeting Professional International (MPI) created the formation the MPI Southern Africa Chapter on 28 November. This milestone generated significant interest in the stand and for the exhibitors.

MPI started 2007 with a strategy to build a global meetings industry community. With Chapters based in North America, Europe and the Middle East, they also set their sights on both Africa and Asia. They achieved this by opening their Asia-Pacific Office in Singapore in October and the launch of the first MPI Chapter in Africa, “The MPI Southern Africa Chapter”. This opened new markets and networking opportunities for global business development for SAACI members and South Africans as a whole.

Current SAACI members were also able to join the chapter at an attractive cost. This initiative provides relevant industries access to MPI members, including 23 000 entrepreneurs, who offer a great resource for Southern African Charter members. One of the core aims of the initiative was to support members through a community platform, in establishing and expanding South African business into other world markets.

Once again, Oasys was privileged to support South African Tourism and SAACI in demonstrating South Africa's competence at an international level in hosting and exhibiting at such high profile and beneficial events.
