So far, of the 451 learners who have graduated from the programs, 300 are now full time employees with Liberty paring to the industry average of 10 percent. From day one, we let learners feel they're part of the company and though we don't guarantee them jobs, many of them have found a niche for themselves in the company, says Rose Cochran, learnership project manager at Liberty Life. She adds that learners are supported by mentors and coaches to ensure they receive all the assistance they may need successfully complete their respective learnerships. Successful applicants can will study towards one of the following qualifications: Long term insurance, Wealth Management, Contact Centre Operations, Business Administration and Human Management and Practices Support. All learnerships are on NQF level 4. During the recruitment process applicants will go through an assessment process to determine their numeracy and literacy levels and complete an individual personality profile to ensure best fit. It is imperative that learners who apply are self motivated, goal orientated and driven, says Cochran. We take into consideration academic performance as well as factors such as personality, aptitude and creative abilities.
All training is done in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. Learners attend classes at Boston City Campus and Business College for their theorical training, for the hands on workplace training; learners are placed at various departments in Liberty Life and at Stanlib. It is essential that learners are able to stay in Johannesburg at their own cost for the duration of the learnerships, Cochran points out. We do, however pay a monthly stipend as is common practice with most learnership programs. We are delighted that our partnership with Liberty has been so enormously successful, as the statistic show, says Shawn Lalla, Head of Learnerships at Boston City Campus and Business College. To apply you must have a valid grade 12 school-leaving certificate, have passed both English and Mathematics; be between 18 and 24 years old; not have completed a post-matric qualification, have no previous corporate work experience, be interested I the financial industry, be from a historically disadvantaged group; have a valid South African ID. Learners who are currently in matric are welcome to apply - their interim results will serve as the basis for selection.
