In African countries, including South Africa, statistics are shockingly high – approximately 45.6% of women on this continent have been victims of this type of violence, reports the South African Medical Research Council (MRC). Fortunately refuge centres, such as Bethany Home, offer a way out for abused women and children in the Johannesburg area.
