Following a special board in Paarl, the Vinpro board has elected Anton Smuts of the Lucerne farm in Robertson as its new chairperson, while Phillip Retief, chief executive officer of Van Loveren Family Vineyards, has been named the vice chairperson. The two are to replace chairperson, Abrie Botha and vice chairperson, Johann Krige, who have resigned from their respective posts but will remain on the board.
Smuts had been serving as VinPro's regional director for the Robertson area since 2004 as well as on the boards of Bonnievale Cellar, Winetech and the Institute for Grape and Wine Sciences. Retief, on the other hand, joined the VinPro board in 2014 as cellar director for the Robertson/Klein Karoo region.
