July is
#CSIMonth on Biz, and Juanita Pienaar kicks off this week's coverage with feedback from last weekend's
5 For Change black tie gala, which raised awareness as well as over R240k for five social enterprises. This year's beneficiaries included Ikhaya Le Langa (Home of the Sun), Numeric, Sunshine Cinema, Dine With and Community Keepers.
Sticking to the topic of CSI, I attended the media launch of Yo Yoga Cape Town's
#Yochallenge. Packaged as bite-size bikram for a good cause, participants will secure sponsorship and donations from loved ones, then perform yoga for 21 days straight come August, with 100% of proceeds raised going towards the Red Cross War Memorial's Children's Hospital. This is a good way of extending the #MadibaDay magic a little further over the coming weeks.
Turning focus back to the media itself, Mike Broom writes about the prevalence of not just fake news, but also
fake research. He also points out that Esomar, the arbiter of international market and opinion research standards, has been alert to this and published updated key requirements for research practitioners in February 2015, adding that it is the responsibility of research buyers to evaluate the methodology and processes of non-Esomar member organisations. Broom lists three of those that have been prominently absent from a number of SA surveys to watch out for in your own reporting and research practices.
Lastly, giving the advertising industry its place in the sun, it's finally time for the Cape Town version of our
Cannes Lions 2017 feedback session, to be held in conjunction with Cinemark at Ster-Kinekor, V&A on Wednesday morning. We're looking forward to the presentations by our roving reporter Ann Nurock, as well as Jenny Ehlers, executive creative director at King James and design juror; Camilla Clerke, creative director of Hellocomputer and mobile juror; as well as Michael Lees-Rolfe, creative director FoxP2 and promo and activation juror, plus Ryan McManus, ECD at Native VML, who judged the
Young Director Awards. If you didn't secure a seat in time, watch for our tweets and post-event coverage.
Also keep an eye out for the
focus on digital marketing special report going live throughout the week. Curated by Louise Marsland, it's set to broaden your thoughts on whether mobile and augmented reality are the future of digital marketing.
