Marisa Truter, director at Tushiyah Advisory Business

Impacting economic growth in a man's world by pairing SMMEs and big business. She's Marisa Truter, one half of Tushiyah Consulting, Johannesburg-born and -raised. She runs it with her partner, Abigail Khuluse Mahlangu. "Abigail and I started up a business while we were studying. This was in 2005. The first business didn't last due to different reasons. We then started again in 2009/2010 and this one is now going on nine years," she said. The terrain has been male-dominated. Truter said they've stood strong and persevered in keeping the business alive and the home fires burning. Khuluse is currently on maternity leave.

Marisa has been instrumental in making Tushiyah known in the industry. She has extensive local economic development experience and specialises in guiding South African businesses to realise their ability to deliver extraordinary results.

She believes that, “Running a successful business doesn’t have just one recipe, there are multiple recipes and you have to find the one working for you. For Tushiyah it has been a combination of combined passion, energy, endurance, vision to create change and contribute to positive economic growth, combined with a culture of trust and respect.”

With Tushiyah’ s national footprint, the focus is to roll out development programmes in KZN, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, Western Cape and the Free State over a three to five-year period. Then to look at the continent.
