As hard as it is for me to believe (or accept), the sci-fi movies of yesteryear have become a reality in many ways. Digiwell has created a tiny NFC chip you can actually implant under your skin - between the left thumb and forefinger - which allows you to open doors, so you’ll never need keys again. The company calls it "the permanent fusion of the human body with technology".
The V30 is described as one of the most exciting smartphone announcements of 2017. The device has a 6-inch 1440×2880 display, an octa-core processor, 64 or 128GB of memory, a fingerprint sensor, and a 16-megapixel main camera, among other cool features.
The sleek Lenovo Yoga 920 2-in-1 has a 4K display, Dolby Atmos sound system, and Intel 8th-gen processor all packed into a thin body. According to the company, the laptop has a battery life of 10.8 hours.
The device, which looks like a small pebble, connects to a tiny computer. Once placed under a pillow, it uses its sensors to detect loud snoring and gives off vibrations to gently shift the pillow into a different position. The idea is to change the orientation of a person's throat and nasal passages to minimise the noise.
French inventors have created a little scanner which clips to the side of a rubbish bin to simplify recycling. It reads the barcode on whatever is about to be tossed in the bin and tells you where the item belongs in the recycling - glass, plastic, or paper. The device also offers prolific scanners reward points that can be used for online shopping.
Japanese electronics company, Panasonic, showcased an intelligent laundry system. This wardrobe washes, dries, and folds away the laundry - without any human intervention. All you need to do is place dirty laundry on a shelf, from where it's whisked into the built-in washing machine, dried, then folded by robotic arms.
No more feeling lame with a stick in hand to snap your selfie. Now you can use a smartphone-controlled drone that fits in your palm - complete with an HD camera.
German domestic appliance maker Miele has perfected what it calls an "intelligent oven" that detects what sort of food has been placed inside and adapts the cooking process to match, based on a database of recipes. No more excuses for not cooking, folks...
