The Department has worked closely with the SABPP over the years to ensure its Human Resources Management programme is demand-driven and meets the set industry standards.

As of January 2015, the SABPP actively began creating awareness and launching student chapters at universities and colleges around South Africa. The SABPP student chapter is an exclusive SABPP Human Resource Student society, comprising of HR students who are actively registered as student members with the SABPP. As part of developing the future talent pool, SABPP recognises the important role it can play to ensure that tertiary students are fully prepared for the industry. SABPP aims at practically preparing students to become familiar with the HR profession.

“I hope that the launch will be informative and beneficial to the department. It will help us to develop the type of HR practitioners our country needs and those that will contribute to the economic growth, HR professional and ethics issues; including corruption,” said Prof. Tshedi Naong, head of the Department Business Management.

New leadership standard launches tomorrow

Marius Mayer, CEO of SABPP said that South Africa is faced with leadership crisis that needs immediate attention. “People no longer know who to follow and trust anymore. As SABPP, we would like to see ethics within the work place and leaders who will become change agents in the country. We are proud to be associated with CUT because we see the potential this institution has in producing quality leaders that this country really needs.”

“The first leadership standard framework is going to be developed and launched tomorrow, 14 September 2017, to assist organisations and guide leaders to be successful in South Africa. In the leadership standard, there are nine elements of what good leadership is about, which include four key elements: leadership philosophy, tone at the top, leadership culture and leadership outcomes and five elements that include: vision, value, ability to lead people, and reflecting back on achievements.
