It's all fine with Jacaranda FM

As part of its 'Lekker to be here' campaign, Martin Bester of Jacaranda FM delighted people queuing at the Randburg traffic department on 1 August 2012, by announcing that he and the station would brighten everyone's day by paying R5000 of traffic fines.
"The crowd, who initially seemed taken by surprise, even a tad shocked, were soon happy to chat the drive time radio host, who was all smiles in making this queue a lekker place to be.

Last week Jacaranda FM presenters, Julio Garcia (The Tonight Show) and Rian van Heerden (The Complimentary Breakfast) visited supermarkets in Faerie Glen and Rosebank to pay for shoppers' groceries.

Over the past few weekends the station has also surprised people at various markets with surprise live performances by Arno Carstens at Rosebank Rooftop Market, Elvis Blue at Irene Village Market, Dozi at Pretoria Boeremark and Karen Zoid at Jozi Food Market, with more surprises rumoured to be on the way.

The campaign includes billboards, street pole ads and branded buses.

I'm shocked and hope they weren't paying ordinary people's traffic fines and certainly hope they weren't paying their own. Traffic fines - and I'm the first to shout mea culpa because I know I am guilty of plenty - are no laughing matter, in a country where so many die because of poor driving and disdain for the law.
