    Facilities meet top health standards

The Council for Health Service Accreditation (COHSASA) has issued its latest accreditation awards to healthcare facilities in Africa, including the King Faisal Hospital in Kigali, Rwanda.

It is the second time this hospital has been accredited by COHSASA, the first award being given in 2011 for two years. This award expired in February and the hospital has now been granted a second accreditation terms for three years until 2016. From an initial baseline score of 41/100, the hospital has achieved an impressive score of 99.

Of interest is the awarding of certificates to the first three clinics ever to be accredited in Lesotho. These are the Likotsi, Mabote and Qoaling filter clinics.

Other facilities that received accreditation awards (valid from May 17 2013) are:

The accreditation awards from COHSASA signify that the healthcare facilities, at the time of the external survey, achieved substantial compliance with COHSASA's internationally accredited standards.

Compliance requirements for full accreditation are: All services should score at least 80/100. There should not be any non-compliant standards or criteria that could result in serious harm or injury to patients or staff; contravention of critical laws and regulations or serious administration, organisational and/or managerial problems.
